What to pack for a spring holiday in Cornwall

This is a wonderful time of year to visit Cornwall. The days are getting longer, the countryside is bursting into life and the coast feels refreshingly peaceful before the height of summer. However, spring weather in Cornwall can be beautifully unpredictable so packing smartly will help you make the most of your stay.

We’ve put together a practical guide of our packing recommendations for a comfortable holiday with Raintree!

Layers are key!

Spring temperatures can change quickly, especially near the coast. Packing layers means you’ll be prepared for everything from cool mornings to sunny, mild afternoons.

Essentials include:

  • Lightweight jumpers or fleeces
  • Long sleeve tops
  • A warm layer for evenings

Layers are easy to add or remove and are perfect for coastal walks or outdoor lunches

Waterproofs

A good waterproof (and ideally windproof) jacket is one of the most important items to bring to Cornwall in spring! Light showers can pass quickly and having good waterproofs means you won’t have to change your plans if the weather turns.

Look for something comfortable enough for walking – you’ll be glad you packed it!

Walking Shoes

Spring is ideal for exploring the Camel Trail, coast paths and countryside – you’re spoilt for choice with us!

  • Comfortable walking shoes or trainers are perfect
  • Waterproof footwear is advisable if you plan on longer walks

Shoes with a good grip are always helpful!

Things to do in Cornwall in spring | Forever Cornwall

Something for sunny days…

We’re keeping everything crossed that our weather holds out for your holiday! Regardless, it’s always worth bringing provisions for sunny weather, just in case!

  • Sunglasses
  • A hat or cap
  • Light scarf (great for breezy beach walks)

Even when it’s cooler, the sun can feel surprisingly strong

Beachwear (yes, really!)

You might not be planning a full beach day in May but spring is perfect for beach walks, rock pooling or brave sea dips.

Pack:

  • Swimwear
  • Beach towels (and extra for the dogs!)
  • Flip flops or water shoes

You may be surprised how tempting the sea looks on a calm spring day!

Casual clothing

As well as your outdoor gear, remember some casual clothing (loungewear or evening meal outfits) for when you head out for a nice lunch or dinner at a local pub or restaurant!

Binoculars or Camera

Spring is one of the best times for wildlife spotting, from birdlife to seals. A camera is always great for those special moments but you may spot some otherwise hidden creatures with binoculars!

Reusable Day Bag

A small rucksack or tote bag is useful for daytime walks, carrying water or snacks and for those extra layers if you’re out for the day

Little extras that make a difference

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Sun cream (even in spring!)
  • Lip balm for coastal breezes
  • A book or journal for peaceful moments
